Finite Element Method
Finite Element Method (FEM) or Finite Element Analysis (FEA) is a powerful tool to numerically solve partial differential equations (PDEs). Although it was originally developed for structural analysis, it now has various applications in various majors including civil and mechanical engineering, electrical engineering, physics, and applied mathematics. There are various ways to develop the formulation, in this chapter, we apply the principle virtual work to obtain the stiffness matrix and solve some 1D and 2D problems.
